Banana:
In September 2013, 1000 bananas have been planted and they are growing normally until 3 months ago. Each parent banana tree gives 3 young banana trees, some already gave flowers and fruits. In September 2014, the banana leaves dried abnormally and the banana trees that gave fruits died and fell on the ground. Solution: As advised by Mr. Mau, we have warned the neighbour painting factory about the chemicals they were using, we also fertilised (dolomit) and watered the plants. Coconut: In 2013, 100 coconuts have been planted on trial. They are not well growing. The planting location is not suitable for coconut because the water is not enough. Solution: The coconuts will be relocated near the river bank. Jackfruit: 5 jack fruits have been planted on trial. They are growing well. Plan: We will plant more jackfruit. Mango: 5 mangos have been planted. They are being sick because of pests and not growing well. Bottle gourd: In Mars 2014, bottle gourds have been planted on 0.3-acre river low land. After 3 months, the harvest was very good in quantity, quality and price. However, the flood came early in May 2014, all bottle gourds have perished after 5-day flooding. Taro:
Since November 2014, taro have been planted on 0,7 acres of land. The taro land is expected to be expanded to 1.3 acres after Tet (lunar new year). The harvest of taro is expected after 6-8 months. PLANTING PLAN:
Extending planting taro in river bank lands (almost 2 acres) in the high land where the coconuts will be moved. Moving coconuts to the river bank. Improving bananas health. Extending the taro planting in the high land by taking good soil in river bank land and putting on the infertile high lands. |
REPORT ON NEEM TREES
The group of Nhuong have applied lime powder to 1,2 ha land of neem trees. Neem and moringa grow very well while breadfruit and sterculia foetida (trôm) develop slowly due to soil and the biological characteristics of the latter. 10-15 trees have died which is normal (low rate). PLAN FOR 2015 1. Water: Neem trees are bigger now and need more water. Neem trunk was at 1-2cm diameter one year ago. Now they are at 7cm diameter, on average. The watering cost increases consequently from 500.000 dong/time to 1.000.000 dong/time. Each time requires 2 persons to carry the water hose. A construction worker earns approx. 300.000 million dong/day. It needs 2-3 days to water all trees. In dry season from Jan to April, it needs 6 watering times. The raining season starts in May. 2. Cut grass: Before watering, we have to cut grass and bushes. It will cost 3.500.000 million dong/day/person. The whole requiring time for watering is 4 days. It needs 2 persons using lawn-machines and big knifes. In order to organize more activities in the land, we will cut grass once at June-end and once at September-beginning. Estimated cost is 2-3.000.000 dong/time. 3. Fertilizer: After applying lime powder, we will apply solid organic manure to land. One week after dry manure, we will apply liquid fertiliser 0.6m away from the plants’ roots and leaves (to increase the absorption of nutrient, water and sun rays of the plants, in 2015). At the moment, the working group are cutting grasses, bushes to prepare for the watering. After that, the working group will cut grass and bushes. We expecting that at the middle of next week, the solid manure will be applied and after one week, the liquid fertilizer will be applied. 4. Lime powder: Lime powder has been applied to soil. The soil in this area was the worst, unlike the soil in the banana trees area. However, after using lime stone, the soil has been improved, even the grass and bushes have grown very fast in 2014 in this infertile area. In Baba's grace, we hope that all trees will develop nicely at the end of 2015, that neem trees will have 12cm diameter trunk and 05-06m height, from the current 3,5m height. In 2016, if neem trees grow up well, we may plant other medicinal herbs or useful trees and flowers in this neem area, or to raise honey bees. We can build some bungalows (one bungalow in 10-20m2 in the neem’s shade. |
